The Artist

Noor is not a name chosen for a brand. It is the name given at birth — and the name bestowed again, decades later, by the Sharjah Directorate of Arts when they titled his first solo exhibition simply: Noor. Light. The institution recognised something the artist had always known but never announced. The light was already there. It just needed a canvas large enough to hold it.

A Life Before the Canvas

For seventeen years, Noor built some of the most successful advertising agencies in the Gulf — growing from zero to a hundred people, mastering the architecture of human persuasion, understanding at the deepest level what moves a human being to feel, to act, to believe. He was not an artist then. He was a communicator. But the skills were the same — the ability to reach past the rational mind and touch something truer underneath.

Then came September 2001. The world changed overnight. And a man who had spent his career speaking to people's minds felt something shift — deeply, irrevocably — in his heart. He went to the sea in Oman. To silence. To the most fundamental questions a human being can ask. And somewhere in that stillness, between the white sand and the open ocean, the paintings began. Before a single brush had been lifted.

The First Exhibition — And the Name

In 2004, the Sharjah Directorate of Arts presented an exhibition that had never been attempted before. Sixty-six large-scale abstract paintings of the 99 Names of Allah — painted not by a calligrapher, not by an Arab, but by a man who knew no Arabic calligraphy and approached the sacred Names not through tradition but through feeling. Through the heart's own intelligence. The institution named the show Noor. It ran for five months. UAE Television covered it. A nation noticed. And a brand was born — not from a strategy, but from recognition.

I did not choose the name. The name chose me.

The Practice — Twenty Thousand Hours

Through the financial crisis of 2008, while the world was contracting, Noor was expanding. In a studio-warehouse he built himself in the Sharjah free zone industrial area near the airport — two levels, a mezzanine, one of the most extraordinary private studios in the Emirates — he painted every morning for four years. 200 canvases. Then 250. All large. All without a planned exhibition, without a gallery waiting, without a buyer in sight.

Burj Khalifa — The World's Tallest Canvas

In 2018, the work reached its most monumental expression. The LED art spectacle of ArtNoor — the 99 Names of Allah rendered in light — was displayed on the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building, for the entire month of Ramadan. Then again in 2019. Two consecutive years. The work that began in silence, in a warehouse apartment, finally written in light on the Dubai skyline for the world to see.

The Philosophy

ArtNoor stands at the intersection of two types of light: the light of the mind — logic, knowledge, technology, data — and the light of the heart — intuition, feeling, the sacred, the human. Science today confirms what mystics have always known — the heart has its own neurons. It thinks. It knows. Not in the language of calculation, but in the language of feeling.

In the age of artificial intelligence — where everything can be generated, optimised, automated — the light of the heart becomes not less relevant but more essential. It is the one thing that cannot be replicated. The only signal that remains irreducibly human.

You are not a drop in the ocean. You are an ocean in a drop. — Rumi

The Mission

At 65, Artist Noor is building something larger than a gallery. An online museum. A foundation. A body of work and wisdom entirely dedicated to the next generation. All revenues from ArtNoor are directed to foundations and causes that serve those who need it most. Art is the medium. Light is the message. Giving is the goal.

L'Artiste
